University Food Service Buildout

Chartwells engaged Sachse Construction to build out Eastern Eateries, a 24,000-square-foot food-service marketplace on the Eastern Michigan University campus in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Designed as a welcoming destination for students to gather, study, and enjoy a variety of dining options, the space supports the university’s vision of fostering community through food, social connection, and collaboration.

Sachse Construction oversaw the installation of multiple restaurant concepts—including Chop’d and Wrap’d, Starbucks, and a Market grab-and-go store—delivering a modern, flexible environment built around student needs. The project included selective demolition and renovation of the existing space, upgrades to major building systems, installation of new food service equipment, and exterior façade improvements.

Completed on an accelerated summer schedule in 2018, Eastern Eateries now serves as a vibrant hub for student life and campus engagement.
