Renovating Detroit's Last Vacant High-Rise

The Lee Plaza stood at a crossroads: face demolition or be brought back to life. Sachse Construction—together with the City of Detroit, The Roxbury Group, Ethos Development Partners, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, Lighthouse Michigan, and many other dedicated partners—chose restoration over removal.

The redevelopment will reopen the historic high-rise as affordable housing for Detroit seniors and families. More than a construction project, this effort represents Detroit’s resilience and its ongoing commitment to creating a stronger, more equitable future for all.

Key Highlights:
• Detroit’s last vacant high-rise is being restored and reactivated
Phase 1: Affordable senior housing targeted for completion in late 2026
Phase 2: An additional 65 mixed-income homes are currently in planning
