A Year of Purpose: 2025 Social Mission Year in Review

sachse social mission

At Sachse Construction, building goes beyond bricks and beams. It’s about creating pathways for opportunity, access, and advancement and helping Detroit’s next generation see themselves in the future we’re building together. The Sachse Construction Social Mission (SSM) Committee sits at the heart of this commitment. In 2025, our efforts reached classrooms, construction sites, neighborhoods, and community centers, each experience reinforcing our belief that when we invest in people, we strengthen Detroit. Here’s a look back at some of the ways we made a difference together this year.

January | Meeting Essential Needs

For more than 12 years, we’ve proudly supported Mittens for Detroit, helping ensure Detroiters stay warm throughout Michigan’s harsh winter months. To date, we’ve donated over 10,000 mittens, and this January, volunteers once again collected and sorted over 500 pairs that will make a meaningful difference this season.

February | Building Community Through Mentorship

In February, we rallied behind Beat the Streets, a nationwide mentorship program supporting youth physical, mental, and academic wellness through wrestling, tutoring, and community engagement. Team members, friends, and partners gathered for a spirited Euchre fundraiser raising over $1,500 of support for the Detroit program.

March | Celebrating Youth Potential

We were honored to attend The Konnection’s first annual gala and support their work empowering Detroit youth through after-school mentoring, academic enrichment, and essential resources that improve student achievement and attendance.

April | Opening Doors to Opportunity

The 11th Annual Sachse Construction Academy, hosted at The Preserve in Ash, an active Sachse Construction jobsite, came to life through volunteer leadership. Over the past 11 years, the program has impacted more than 5,750 students. This year, students from Old Redford, Osborn, and Randolph Career & Technical Center explored hands-on career pathways in skilled trades and urban development.

We also supported JOURNi by donating 30 refurbished Dell laptops, valued at approximately $4,500–$6,000, helping Detroiters build foundational skills for careers in software development and thrive in today’s tech-driven economy.

Additionally, we were proud to support Higher Ground Abode, contributing $5,000 to their first shared home for youth transitioning out of foster care and advancing a skilled trades workforce partnership with Atlantic Impact pairing housing stability with career growth.

May | Growing Skills and Communities

We partnered with The Greening of Detroit for a community tree planting initiative near The James and Grace Lee Boggs School. Volunteers from Sachse Construction and Morrey’s Contracting planted over 100 trees, investing in environmental health, job training, and neighborhood pride.

We were also thrilled to sponsor and volunteer at Atlantic Impact’s Build Detroit: Skilled Trades Youth Challenge and support 200 high school students showcase their impressive talent in carpentry, masonry, welding, and electrical trades.

Later in the month, we supported Math in the D, leading a hands-on construction and engineering module that demonstrated how math comes to life through real-world problem-solving.

June | Empowering & Advocating

We donated $2,700 to Redeem Detroit, supporting young mothers pursuing skilled trades training, OSHA certification, and employment opportunities following graduation.

Several of us also spoke at the Grosse Pointe Rotary Club, sharing the mission of the Sachse Construction Academy and advocating for skilled trades career pathways for today’s youth.

August | Back-to-School Support

In August, we supported BOYS 2 MEN through their back-to-school supply drive, donating 50 fully stocked backpacks to help local students start the school year prepared and confident.

September | Investing in the Future Workforce

We matched a fundraising drive for the Southeast Michigan Construction Academy, raising $2,000 to provide scholarships to deserving Detroit students. Several committee members attended the scholarship reception to celebrate the recipients and their future aspirations.

In September, we also celebrated Brilliant Detroit’s mission at the Historic Harmonie Club Detroit. Since 2016, Brilliant Detroit has welcomed more than 26,000 children and caregivers into neighborhood-based hubs offering year-round programming in education, health, parenting, and community connection.

October | Learning, Giving Back, and Celebrating Community

The 12th Annual Sachse Construction Academy was hosted at The Lee Plaza, another active Sachse Construction jobsite. Students from Old Redford, Northwestern High School, and Randolph Career & Technical Center engaged in hands-on learning experiences highlighting skilled trades and development careers.

For the eighth consecutive year, we supported Halloween in the D at Detroit’s 8th Police Precinct, helping create a safe, fun, and memorable experience for thousands of families.

We also participated in Palmer Park Academy’s STEM Fest, hosting an engineering challenge that encouraged students to design freestanding towers using only index cards—sparking creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving.

November | A Season of Generosity

Each November, our Giving Tree provides our team with opportunities to support families during the holidays. This year’s donations supported Life Builders Detroit and their annual Christmas Store, providing 35 families access to essential items and affordable holiday gifts.

December | Closing the Year with Purpose

Our 3rd Annual Hard Hats for Detroit Art Auction raised $23,600 in support of workforce development programs benefiting EcoWorks Detroit, Focus: HOPE, and Randolph Career & Technical Center’s welding department. Featuring artists April Wagner, Josh Welton, and Bo Shepherd, and powered by sponsors Carhartt, LuxWall, and Milwaukee Tool, the auction brought creativity and community together for impact.

We closed the year with one of our most meaningful traditions, supporting The Konnection families during the holidays through their Bless a Family initiative. Our annual committee shopping trip not only provides Christmas presents for 10 families but is also a powerful reminder that time, connection, and care are among the most impactful gifts we can give.

Thank you to our team, partners, and community who made this year possible. We invite you to join us as we continue investing in Detroit’s future, one relationship, one project, and one community at a time.
