In 1929, the former Detroit Fire Department headquarters was built on the northeast corner of Washington Boulevard and West Larned Street. Sachse Construction worked with McIntosh Poris to convert these two historic buildings into a 100-key high-end boutique hotel, The Detroit Foundation Hotel. The hotel includes a full bar and restaurant – otherwise known as The Apparatus Room – enclosed on the first floor, and the addition of a fifth-floor banquet hall.
The Apparatus Room showcases the building’s rich history as well as its chic take on Detroit’s renaissance. A perfect blend of old and new, the space features uniquely selected finishes, lighting, and furnishings, along with restored historical elements. The project team carefully restored and replaced plaster and brick inside the restaurant before installing new features, including an eye-catching bar. The focal point of the restaurant, the bar, is complete with marble front casework and surrounded by brand-new wood flooring.
