West Elm – Fairfax, VA
A Retail Face Lift
Sachse Construction led the construction of West Elm in Fairfax, Virginia. This project was a store buildout of an entire first floor of a new mixed-use facility. During this project, residential apartment units were in the process of being built on the floors above. Coordination with the other construction partner working on the residential units was a key element to this project’s success. A challenge the team has faced was scheduling and coordination of the shared loading dock. To overcome this, Sachse Construction and the other construction partner created a schedule to manage deliveries.
This project incorporated 140 feet of a linear storefront with an exterior architectural metal panel. The metal panel used for the storefront had a lead time of 19 weeks. The team knew that this panel was an essential element of West Elm’s exterior and decided to look for alternative solutions. The team found another vendor who could create this custom metal panel and deliver it with a six-week lead time, which saved time on the project.
The client was very satisfied with the team’s ability to find solutions and preplan to prevent obstacles from occurring.
