Constructing Unique Features for Learning

A Colorful Classroom Addition

Sachse Construction was hired to manage the construction of a 12,100 square foot addition for Temple Israel. The new addition provides six classrooms, a music room, a teaching greenhouse, and a learning center with a small kitchen for its congregation.

The project also features a unique connector referred to as “The Bridge” that connects the existing building to the new addition with a wall “playground” within a 20-foot clerestory. The corridors are lined with colorful finishes including a special patterned carpet designed by the interior designer custom to Temple Israel.

The exterior of the building matches the high-end finishes on the existing structure. The large glass clerestory around the connector is designed with extra protection features for the children as well as a daylit environment.

Along with the building addition, the West Bloomfield Township’s Planning Department also required Sachse Construction to update the entire existing 20-acre storm water system.
