Sunset Grown Office Renovation
MAKING SPACE FOR FRESH PRODUCE IN DETROIT
OCCUPIED RENOVATION IN A HISTORIC BUILDING
Sachse Construction managed the interior build-out of an office space within a historic building to create a new workspace for Sunset Grown in Detroit, MI. The produce company hired Sachse Construction to renovate their 6,042-square-foot space with interior improvements, custom metal fabrication, custom millwork, furniture installation, and A/V coordination.
The space is situated within a historic building that was occupied throughout construction. With tenants above and below the project site, the Sachse Construction team had to carefully coordinate disruptive activities to be performed during off-hours. Whenever work had to be done on occupied floors, the team provided proper notice to tenants, took extra safety precautions, and remained in close communication with all tenants and building staff.
The project team had to pay special attention to detail while coordinating alignment and accessibility for overhead MEPs. Not only were these systems surrounded by decorative wood ceilings, but they were also being used simultaneously by other tenants.
Later, the project team coordinated multiple crane lifts for material deliveries since the elevator sizes limited the ability for the team to transport construction materials and soft finishes through the interior of the building. Instead, they were lifted to their desired locations by entering through the building’s windows. Once the last piece of owner-supplied furniture was in place, the team could happily enjoy their new digs.
