Plaza Walmart
Shopping Center Reconstruction
Drying Out and Rebuilding
Sachse Construction performed reconstruction and tenant coordination services for Plaza Walmart in Guayama, Puerto Rico. The one-story, 164,000 gross square foot shopping center suffered damage following a hurricane to its façade, roof, and interior caused by wind and rain. The shopping center contains a Walmart and 13 other small inline spaces, of which 10 are unoccupied.
The scope of work for Plaza Walmart includes reconstruction and remediation for the exterior and interior of the shopping center and 13 tenant spaces, including KFC and Sally Beauty, installation of a new roof, and repairs to the rooftop mechanical units and utilities.
One of the challenges at Plaza Walmart was the unique resequencing that had to take place to put the interior renovation before the roof work. Special precautions had to be taken to ensure the roof reconstruction did not cause any damage to the newly renovated interior spaces.
Additionally, with only three tenants to work with, Sachse Construction was able to complete the reconstruction work at the shopping center efficiently, finishing work in vacant as well as three tenant space simultaneously. To effectively coordinate tenant work, the Sachse Construction team continually communicated with each tenant for individual scopes completed in their stores to minimize impact to their operations and business.
