Historic Preservation & Synagogue Conversion
A Fresh Space for Learning
Upon taking possession of the Beth Achim synagogue at 21100 12 Mile Road in Southfield, MI, Akiva hired Sachse Construction to transform the building into a K-12 day school.
During construction, the project team was able to preserve the synagogue’s two sanctuaries, both of which have historically significant stained glass windows. Today, the space is used for assemblies and prayer services. When completed in 1999, the 60,000-square-foot facility included 21 internet-connected classrooms, a science lab, a computer lab, a kitchen, a lunchroom/multipurpose room, and extensive office space.
